The National Archives primarily preserve the records of government and Parliament, the judicial system, the educational system, and many others public bodies. The records of central government are normally held in Stockholm, while regional and local material is held in the Regional State Archives, along with church archives and a number of other public archives. Our collections also include the records of private individuals, families, associations, and more.

Archives and reading rooms

The National Archives in Stockholm and the Regional State Archives have a number of reading rooms and libraries open to the public.

Täby (Arninge-Krigsarkivet)

The National Archives in Täby holds the records of central government and private archives of national interest, mainly from the twentieth century onwards, along with a million maps and drawings and military documents from the end of the sixteenth century to the present.

The National Archives in Stockholm hold the records of central government from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries. More recent records are primarily kept in Arninge.

The Regional State Archives in Gothenburg holds the records from the county of Västra Götaland, along with a large number of documents related to shipping.

The Regional State Archives in Härnösand holds records from the counties of Gävleborg, Västernorrland, Västerbotten, and Norrbotten. You will also find property documents from  Sweden`land registry.
