When the din of fighting in 1815 Scandinavia had lived through one of its most fateful decade an a half ever. All the major powers, France, Russia and Britain had been at war with at least one of the two Scandinavian countries, which had, moreover, been at war wth one another twice. The political map of the region had changed almost beyond recognition. Major areas had been lost to Russia and Prussia and Norway had changed its political allegiance. In this book some 20 Swedish and Scandinavian scholars describe these dramatic shifts as well as the equipment and organisation of the Swedish army and navy between 1780-1820.
