Queen Christina is one of the few persons in Swedish history who has attracted international interest. The private archives of the queen are scattered around the European continent, as her outstanding library and her art collection, thus reflecting the life of this "European" queen. In the early 1990´s it was revealed that a collection of documents, originating from the last decades of Queen Christina´s life and of her court in Rome, was still to be found in the possession of Prince Paolo Francesco Boncompagni Ludovisi - a descendant of the Marquis Orazio Borbon del Monte, who worked closely with the queen for many years as Grand Chamberlain of her court in Rome. The Swedish Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Wenner-Gren Centre Foundation, and the Sven and Dagmar Salén Foundation have through generous contributions enabled the National Archives of Sweden to acquire the Del Monte Collection. This inventory of the collection will hopefully serve a worldwide public of historians and others.
